About Barterstead
Barterstead is a barter board for neighbors. It started in Sebastopol with a simple idea: most of us have more to offer than we get credit for (eggs, a truck, a welder, an afternoon), and plenty of what we need doesn't have to cost cash.
How it's different
Trades, not sales. Every listing says what the person would happily take in return, and offers can mix goods, help, and a little cash.
Less flaking. Each neighbor shares when they're usually free, and every trade has a time both people confirm.
Kudos, not stars. After a trade is done, both sides can send a thank-you. There are no one-star reviews, and kudos only come from trades that actually happened.
Free to trade
Trading on Barterstead is free. We're figuring out how to keep the lights on without getting in the way, most likely by tipping and local sponsors, never by putting trading behind a paywall.
Stay safe
Meet somewhere you're comfortable, bring a friend for bigger trades, and trust your gut. If something feels off, call it off. That's always fine.
